New here, day four, figuring out small routines

hi everyone, I'm brand new and on day four of week one. I'm a little nervous to post because I don't want to ask anything silly. So far I've been drinking more water, aiming for about 2 liters, and making sure breakfast has protein. I also cut out my late-night snacking habit, which has been the hardest part. The scale is down 1.5 pounds, but I know that might just be water. I measured my waist for the first time, and it was 38 inches, which honestly made me feel a bit discouraged. I'm trying to remind myself it's early. Do you all track measurements too, or mostly just the scale? Thanks for being kind.

I’m a three-year vet here. Day four is early—congrats on posting. The thing that helped me most wasn’t any magic routine; it was setting a 15-minute “kitchen closed” timer after dinner: brush teeth, make a mug of herbal tea, and leave my phone charging outside the kitchen. I also took waist measurements once a week instead of weighing daily, because scale noise made me nuts early on. What time does your late-night urge usually hit—right after dinner, or closer to bed? That pattern can tell you whether to swap the habit or adjust what you eat earlier in the day

day four is the thick of it—hang in there. The late-night snacking was my hardest too. What helped was figuring out if it was real hunger or just “kids finally asleep” boredom. I keep a snack drawer with pre-portioned stuff: turkey sticks, light string cheese, frozen grapes, roasted chickpeas. If I truly need something after dinner, I grab one and make a mug of tea, then brush my teeth. Chaotic dinner nights we do assemble-your-own: rotisserie chicken, bagged salad, steamable veg, tortillas. Not fancy, but protein + fiber without a production. What time is your snacking urge usually hitting?

Welcome! Day four is early, and posting is the hard part—glad you did. One tiny thing that helped me: a cheap notebook on the counter where I jot bedtime, water, and whether I got a 10-minute walk. Not calories, just patterns. Also, our little locl pharmacy gave me a free sharps container when I asked—worth checking if yours does, and sometimes insurance covers it. Don't stress the 1.5; my first week bounced around like crazy. Is your late-night snacking more boredom or true hunger? Figuring that out helped me swap in tea or early teeth-brushing.

welcome! Day four is honestly the hardest for the snack habit, so give yourself credit. One thing that helped me: I made a “kitchen closed” ritual after supper — mug of decaf tea, brush teeth, and I jot tomorrow’s breakfast on a sticky note. Keeps me from wandering back to the pantry. Also, our little pharmacy has a free blood-pressure machine and a decent scale, so I weigh myself there once a week instead of every morning; the daily numbers drove me nuts. Do you have a protein breakfast you actually like, or are you rotating? I’m always hunting new ideas. You’re doing great.

Day four is so early. That 1.5 lb is likely glycogen + water, especially if you cut late-night carbs/sodium; in the trials, the scale is noisy week to week. I’d add one non-scale metric: waist at the navel or how rings fit. For me, the late-night habit was more “mouth wants something” than real hunger, so I swapped to herbal tea and brushing my teeth right after dinner. Curious: when the urge hits, does it feel like stomach hunger or just the routine/habit? That distinction changed how I handled it.
