Small win: I finally fit in the pharmacy waiting chairs

Y'all, I had the silliest little victory today and I have to tell somebody who'd actually get it. Our little pharmacy downtown has those hard plastic waiting chairs bolted in a row, and for years I'd perch on the very edge because my hips would not squeeze between the armrests. Today I sat all the way back, both arms resting, like a normal human being. Nearly teared up in front of the poor pharmacist.

I'm 14 weeks in, down 22 pounds, still wearing the same baggy jeans from March because I'm too cheap to buy new ones yet. And the scale has been parked on the same number for 11 days, which usually would send me into a spiral. But the chair thing hit different, you know?

Anybody else have a random one like this? Something that isn't pounds or inches, just a little thing you used to avoid without even noticing you were avoiding it?

Love this. The bolted pharmacy chairs are an unsung NSV—no scale required. I had a similar moment at the DMV last month: I slid all the way back and my elbows actually fit on the armrests instead of hovering. Took everything in me not to text my sister from the waiting line. My scale was actually up 0.8 that morning, which is why I lean on trend weight—the body was clearly changing in ways the daily number wasn’t showing. Did you notice any other “seating” wins lately, like booths or movie theaters?

That’s such a good one. I’ve started noticing “sit-ability” too—last week I sat in a waiting room chair with a solid back and realized my feet actually reached the floor flat instead of tipping. Weirdly emotional. I’ve been jotting those moments in my notes app next to hunger/fullness cues, because the scale can stall while my body keeps changing shape. Did you notice if your breathing changed once you weren’t perched? I swear I exhale deeper when I’m not bracing.

What a lovely, tangible victory. I keep a note on my phone for these because they often show up before my weekly average budges. Mine was the dentist’s waiting room: I could sit all the way back and cross my ankles instead of doing the edge-perch. Did you notice any other seats changing for you—restaurant booths, stadium benches, your car? The pharmacy chairs feel especially satisfying because they are so public and ordinary. Congratulations on the quiet proof.
