Corxel Takes Oral GLP-1 Public in $377M SPAC Deal as CX11 Readies Phase 3

What Happened

Corxel Pharmaceuticals, the U.S. division of Shanghai-based Corxel Group, announced Monday a definitive business combination with the blank-check company Amanat Acquisition Corp. that will take its obesity pipeline public and inject roughly $377 million into the company.

About $75 million sits in Amanat's trust account, alongside a concurrent private placement of roughly $300 million. Placement investors include RTW Investments, New Enterprise Associates, SR One, RA Capital Management, and several others. On closing, they are expected to hold about 50.1% of the combined company, Corxel Group about 33.4%, and SPAC shareholders about 12.8%.

The combined company will adopt a new name and ticker before closing, expected in the first half of 2027. Management says the capital should fund operations into 2029.

The asset that justifies the raise is CX11, a once-daily oral small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist. Corxel has completed a Phase 3 trial in Asia and reported U.S. Phase 2 results showing up to 11.5% weight loss at 36 weeks. Vomiting occurred in 12% to 16% of participants, which the company describes as markedly lower than rates reported in mid-stage testing of competing oral pills, and the discontinuation rate was 5%, with no liver safety signals reported.

Corxel says it has FDA agreement on the design of a U.S. Phase 3 program, expected to begin in the first half of 2027. A separate type 2 diabetes Phase 2 study has preliminary data due in the same window. An earlier-stage oral amylin candidate, CX12, is slated for an investigational new drug filing in the first half of 2027.

Who Is Affected

  • Patients who prefer pills to injections, the group oral GLP-1 programs are explicitly designed to capture.
  • The oral GLP-1 field, where Novo Nordisk's oral Wegovy and Lilly's Foundayo already hold approvals.
  • Peptide manufacturers and suppliers, because small-molecule oral GLP-1s compete for the same patients without needing peptide synthesis or cold chain.

Timeline

  • November 2024: Registrational Phase 3 trial of CX11 in China initiated.
  • June 2026: Positive U.S. Phase 2 top-line results in adults with obesity or overweight.
  • October 26, 2026: Business combination with Amanat announced.
  • First half of 2027: Expected deal closing, U.S. Phase 3 start, type 2 diabetes data, and CX12 filing.

What This Means for Researchers

CX11 is a small molecule, not a peptide. Oral peptides such as semaglutide depend on absorption enhancers and strict fasting instructions; a small-molecule agonist avoids both. It also will not appear in peptide supply chains or research catalogs the way incretin peptides do.

Comparing 11.5% weight loss at 36 weeks against Phase 2 results for other oral agents crosses trial boundaries — different populations, durations, and analysis methods. What the company is really claiming is a tolerability advantage, and that claim will be tested in Phase 3.

The strategic signal: capital is still flowing to oral obesity assets at late-stage valuations, and tolerability — not peak weight loss — is the differentiator.

How to Verify Your Peptides

If your work involves research peptides rather than approved medicines, documentation is the only reliable check. Start with how our testing works, then read our comparison of HPLC purity versus LC-MS identity. Independent certificates of analysis should report identity, purity, and fill weight together.

Safe Alternatives

Approved options include semaglutide and tirzepatide, with pipeline compounds such as retatrutide covered in our peptide library. For suppliers with published third-party testing, see the vendor directory.
