Seven weeks of the same two pounds, then this morning it moved

I've been here since the old daily chat threads, so I know plateaus are part of the deal, but this one really tested my patience. Scale sat between 218 and 220 for seven straight weeks. Same food, same walks, same everything. I kept telling myself the body isn't a spreadsheet, but by week six I was taking the batteries out and putting them back in like that would do something.

What actually shifted, I think: I stopped weighing myself daily and went to twice a week, added a real protein anchor at breakfast (eggs, not just coffee), and started a 20-minute walk after dinner instead of scrolling. Nothing dramatic. This morning: 216.4. Two pounds, but it feels like ten.

Funny thing is my jeans were already looser around week three, so the scale was just slow to catch up. Anyone else find the tape measure moves well before the number does?

man, seven weeks is a marathon. The thing that finally made plateaus less maddening for me was switching to a 7-day moving average plus a waist tape. In the trials, scale weight is a noisy proxy—fluid, glycogen, gut contents can mask fat loss for weeks, then drop all at once. Mine broke after a random high-sodium day, which sounds backward, but I think it was the subsequent whoosh. Did you change anything micro-level in week six—sleep, stress, walk intensity, fiber? I ask because those are the only things that reliably predict my stalls, and sometimes the scale moves before the mirror catches up.

Curious what the 7-week trend looked like on a weekly average vs. daily weigh-ins. Mine can sit flat for ages, but waist and how clothes fit often keep changing. Did you notice anything non-scale move during that stretch—rings, belt notch, energy, sleep? I’ve also found a couple of bad-sleep nights or a salty delivery meal can mask 1–2 lb for days, then it drops. Not saying that’s you, just something I’d check before changing anything.

Congrats on finally seeing it move. The thing that kept me sane through my last stall was measuring something besides the scale — same spot, same time, Sunday morning, waist tape. My waist kept dropping for three of those weeks while the scale sulked at the same number. Weirdly motivating.

Curious though: did anything shift in the week or two before it moved for you, or did it just let go on its own? I can never tell if I actually did something or if my body just finally got bored of holding out.

Seven weeks is brutal. Something tat helped me stop spiraling: I tracked waist at navel and a specific belt notch, not just weight. During a similar stall my scale didn’t budge for ~5 weeks, but waist was down 1.25 inches and my sleep ring showed resting HR drifting down. Then one weekend of extra carbs/sodium? Scale jumped, then over the next 4 days dropped 3.5 lbs. In the trials, average losses look smooth; real life is stair-steps with water noise. Did your waist or how your clothes fit change at all during those seven weeks?

Airport sodium is my villain. I had the same seven-week stare-down until a trip where I basically lived on grocery-store rotisserie chicken and baby carrots from the airport kiosk. Came home, slept in my own bed, and the scale dropped 2.4 lbs overnight. So much of my “plateau” was travel puff and restaurant salt. Did yours finally move on a home week or a travel week?

congrats on the move! The thing that finally busted my dorm plateau was weighing peanut butter instead of eyeballing it—my “tablespoon” was basically a 300-calorie hockey puck. Also started shredding rotisserie chicken into instant ramen; cheap protein and way less sad than plain noodles. Did you change anything tiny in week seven, or did your body jst finally blink first?

congrats! Not to be that person, but the only thing that cracked my 5-week dorm plateau was realizing my “cheap protein” was mostly sodium: instant ramen + canned chicken. I switched to plain Greek yogurt with frozen berries and a sad little tuna-cucumber bowl, and the scale finally moved after a weird 3-day whoosh. Any chance your dining hall changed oils or salt lately? Also, have you tried progress pics in the same cursed fluorescent bathroom lighting? My scale lies; the mirror is brutally honest.

grats on the drop. i had a similar 6-week stall and what finally moved it was swapping my late-night gaming soda for a big thing of cold sparkling water with lime. not magic, just killed the 200 cal i was sipping from like 11pm-2am. also started weighing after my morning pee but before coffee, same time every day. did you change anything about your evening routine during week 7 or did the scale just finally give up the fight?

Seven weeks is wild. I had a 6-week flatline at 203-205. The only thing that changed before it broke: I stopped weighing on mornings after poor sleep. My log showed my “whoosh” mornings almost always followed 7.5+ hrs sleep and a day under 2,000mg sodium (I track loosely). Also my scale reads 1.6 lbs heavier if I weigh after 7am vs 6:15. Did your drop line up with better sleep or a lower-sodium day, or was it totally random?
