New here: do your rest days feel lazy too?

Hi everyone, I’m brand new here and only on my first week. I’m trying to be gentle with myself because I tend to go all-or-nothing. I did a 25-minute walk on Monday, a beginner bodyweight video Tuesday, and then spent Wednesday and Thursday just sore and tired. I still made myself take a short evening stroll both days, around 10 minutes, because sitting completely still made me anxious. Now I’m second-guessing whether that counts as rest. Do you schedule true off days, or do you keep some light movement? Sorry if this is such a basic question. I’d love to hear what works for you without overdoing it early on.

Welcome. I recognize that all-or-nothing feeling. One shift that helped me early on was tracking a weekly total instead of judging each day: I add up walks, bodyweight sessions, and even 10-minute strolls, then look at the average across the week. Two sore, tired days do not undo

Rest days aren't lazy—my soreness trendline only drops when I actually chill. Welcome!

Rest days make me feel lazy too, but my spreadsheet loves them. Go figure.

Oh I feel this. My rest days still feel lazy, but sore-tired means you earned one. A little stroll counts.

Honestly, yes, at first. What flipped it for me: I made rest days have a “done” checkbox. 10-minute walk after dinner, 5 minutes stretching, refill my water bottle. That’s it. Not a workout, jst maintenance. I tracked it as R, not W, so my streak stayed alive without lying to myself. The long plateau I’m in now taught me rest isn’t the enemy—under-recovering and then overdoing it is. Curious: are you sore in specific spots from the video, or just wiped overall? That usually tells me whether to do gentle movement or truly chill.

Welcome! That’s not lazy at all—10 minutes on a sore day is exactly the middle ground that breaks the all-or-nothing cycle. One concrete thing that helped me: I made a “rest day menu” with 3 options—gentle stretch, 10-min stroll, or full

I’m only a few months in, but I had the same guilt. What helped was labeling days: recovery day vs full rest day. On recovery days I do a 10-min flat walk, but I cap it at a pace where I can talk in full sentences. I also jot a 1–10 soreness score in my notes; if it’s above a 4, I don’t add anything else. Full rest day = no step goal, no guilt. Are you tracking soreness or sleep at all? Also, is your bodyweight video lower-body heavy? That would explain the Wednesday/Thursday crash more than “laziness.”

Rest days aren’t lazy—they’re the hotel-lobby shuffle days. I travel constantly, so my “rest” is often just laps to the airport gate, 5 min of hip/ankle mobility in the room, and a resistance band while watching bad cable. I track it as “
