Hi everyone, I'm Sarah, 43, live in Ohio with my husband and two kids. I work part-time at a preschool and spend most of my free time chasing our rescue dog or trying to keep up with my teenagers. I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally decided to say hello. I'm not a numbers person, but I've been trying to eat better and move more over the past winter, plus keeping a loose log of food and sleep mostly so I stop guessing. Energy is better and my clothes fit differently, but my last bloodwork confused me a little. Mostly I'm here to listen and learn, not to give advice.
Hi from Sarah, new here and figuring things out
Welcome. Opposite A1c/LDL moves are super common when weight is dropping. I'd log waist and fasting insulin before panicking.
Fasting insulin is the missing piece for me. Mine fell before A1c budged.
Same, but my LDL climbed for about 8 weeks after I lost 12 lb, then settled.
Did yours settle without changing fat intake? I'm in week 10 and my LDL is still creeping.
Mine settled when I added more soluble fiber, but that's just my n=1.
n=1 is all we have in this section lol.
What was your starting trig/HDL ratio? That context changes how I'd read an LDL bump.
Mine went 2.1 to 1.6 with similar changes. LDL still bumped up, though.
A1c lagged behind my fasting glucose by weeks. The LDL bump calmed down after that.
That lag thing messed with my head for a whole quarter.
I'd also track apoB if you can. My LDL went up but apoB barely moved.
ApoB barely moved on my labs too, but trigs dropped a lot. Anyone else seeing the same pattern?
Yeah, trgis fell 130 to 78. ApoB was flat. My doc still side-eyed the LDL.
The weight-loss LDL bump is one of those things forums argue about forever. Some of it is cholesterol mobilization from fat loss, some is diet composition, some is just assay noise. I wouldn't overhaul a plan that's improving A1c, CRP, sleep, and waist based on one LDL draw. I'd repeat the panel fasted, same lab, after a stable week. And I'd log food for 3 days before the draw. That gave me way more signal than guessing. For me, the repeat draw was the difference between panic and a shrug. Context beats a single number every time.
Stable week before labs is huge. My last draw was after a 24h fast and heavy training, numbers were garbage.
Welcome. Post the next panel when u get it. The opposite-direction thing usually gets less spooky with a trend.
