I’ve been on a GLP-1 since late January, and I’m fine saying that in a doctor’s office. At a family birthday dinner last weekend, I ate about half a slice of cake and left the frosting.
My aunt asked, loud enough for the whole table, whether I was "on one of those shots." I froze, said "I’m working with my doctor," and changed the subject. Later two cousins started swapping TikTok claims about how it "melts muscle" and "fixes cravings forever." I didn’t have anything cued up beyond "that’s not how the trials describe it." For those who’ve been at this longer: what do you actually say in public?
Do you name the medication, keep it vague, or redirect? And when someone makes a broad claim, do you ask for the source or just let it go?
I’m trying to be honest without becoming the family GLP-1 Wikipedia.
