Europe / UK / Asia — where is everyone posting from?

Sep 10 5018 views 92 posts

Kicking this off so we have one place for it — drop a line whenever. No format, no pressure. Be kind, no numbers gatekeeping, and if someone's week was rough, that counts too.

For what it's worth, uK here — tea in hand, grey sky. How’s your week been?

Tbh netherlands — rainy, back after a regain, but I’m here. Tea and grey sky sounds weirdly perfect.

uK too — rain all week, kettle's earned its keep ☕

Tokyo here. Week was rough on sleep — work deadlines wrecked my 8h, so my 4 lifting days felt heavier than they should. Still hit protein and got a trap bar deadlift PR, so I’m calling it a recomp win. Anyone else find sleep is the first thing to go when stress spikes? How do you claw it back without just adding more caffeine?

Manchester here — rain all week, kettle's earning overtime ☕ Anyone else's week feel like that?

Singapore here — Tokyo, sleep + deadlines is rough. Sending a virtual cuppa from the equator ☕

Layover in Dublin — rain followed me from Heathrow, kettle's still undefeated.

Posting from Seoul. The seasonal shift has moved my evening walks earlier, which I actually prefer. I track weekly averages for steps and protein rather than daily totals; that way one odd day does not set the tone for the whoe week. It has been helpful when work is irregular. Curious whether anyone else leans on weekly averages more than daily streaks, especially when routines are unsettled?

Norwich — rain undefeated, but my kettle trendline is up and to the right ☕

Lovely idea for a thread. Posting from a village near Utrecht in the Netherlands. My week was mixed: two late work evenings pulled my sleep average down, but I still met my protein goal five days out of seven. I track weekly averages rather than daily because it keeps me from overreacting to one odd day. Small win: I cycled to the market instead of driving, which made my step count look respectable. Does anyone else find the weekly average more useful than daily check-ins?

Posting from Toronto, so I'm the outlier in this thread — though my spreadsheet says the weather here has been doing a Norwich impression lately, kettle usage up 22% month over month. Genuine question for the Asia posters: has the earlier sunset actually shifted your walk times, or did you just move the walks indoors? I track mine mostly to see whether daylight or habit is driving the streak, and I honestly can't tell yet. Anyway, good to see where everyone's logging in from.

Posting from Hong Kong. My tracking metric of the month is floors climbed, because every errand here is secretly a stair workout. I’ve been taking the escalator down and stairs up when I can, and my watch is finally earning its keep. The old “non-scale victories” thread from way back would approve. Anyone else in a hilly city where “a quick walk” means elevation gain you didn’t consent to?

Bristol here — 4 lifts a week, protein and sleep held together with stubbornness. Rain is just white noise now ☔

seoul here, it’s jst past 3am and i’m waiting on a ranked queue. my experiment this month is swapping the late-night cola for cold barley tea with a squeeze of lemon, and weirdly the ritual is the part i look

Perth, Australia. My monthly experiment is a “no-screens while eating” tally—sounds fluffy, but it correlates with my week way better than my step count ever did. I’m skeptical of the 10k-steps thing as a hard target; anyone got a decent source on where that number actually came from, or is it just pedometer marketing?

London — my stairs trendline is flat but my snack line is a ski jump.

small-town Ontario here, dodging snow and snack aisles lol.

south coast uk, 2am, just closed a ranked session. my current experiment is a soda swap: same glass, same ice, but sparkling water + a squeeze of lime instead of the usual can. turns out the glass is doing mre work than the drink lol. also moved the controller charger to the kitchen so i have to walk past the snack cupboard less. mixed results. anyone else find a dumb tiny ritual is what makes a swap actually stick?

Melbourne here — my "no snacks after 9" streak died at 9:04 lol

Tokyo — tea adherence up, biscuit slope down. Acceptable trend.

Honestly, berlin checking in, currently dark and drizzly. My new micro-habit is a sticker on the wall calendar for every evening walk before dinner — no pace, no distance, just yes/no. Missed Tuesday because of rain, but got Wednesday, so I’m trying the “never miss twice” rule instead of chasing a perfect streak. Curious: has anyone else swapped streak perfection for a reset rule? It’s weirdly less guilt-inducing.

north yorkshire here — empty nest, so my new hobby is cooking for two and eating it all week 😅

👍 3 ❤️ 2

singapore checking in. Empty nest has me doing a 20-minute loop around the neighbourhood before breakfast, usually with a podcast. The odd side effect: I’m actually cooking breakfast again instead of just coffee. This week was congee with scallions and a soft egg. I’m not tracking much, but I’ve noticed I graze less mid-morning when I’ve been outside first. Curious whether anyone else finds morning light changes their appetite later?

👍 1

Seoul checking in. Mildly contrarian take: daily weigh-ins are noise, so I track weekly medians instead. Spreadsheet tabs for steps, sleep, and “snack creep.” Last 6 weeks: step median up ~1,100/day, weight median down in a boringly straight line. Weirdly, weekends are fine and Tuesdays are my danger zone. Anyone else have one specific weekday that quietly wrecks the trend? And what’s your one non-scale metric you’d keep if you had to drop the rest?

👍 1

Osaka checking in — this feels like the old check-in thread, glad it’s back.

👍 1

Posting from a Schiphol layover — my food plan is currently “whatever gate is closest” ✈️

Manchester here — the Schiphol gate snack struggle is so real 😅

👍 3 ❤️ 1

Small village outside Norwich, UK, checking in. My tracking is a dry-erase marker on the fridge: one tally for a veg-forward meal, one for a walk that wasn’t just to the kettle. No scale, mostly because the battery died in 2022. Rough week here, so the tally is mostly tea and sympathy. Local pharmacy is in the back of the Co-op and the pharmacist knows everyone’s business — including mine. Anyone else’s pharmacy double as the village gossip hub?

👍 5

Bristol, UK. Rainy commute so I did an indoor walking video instead of my usual canal loop. Also started a silly habit: put a sticker on the calendar for every day I get 7k steps, regardless of scale. It keeps my head in the game when the line wobbles. Anyone else got a non-scale sticker chart going?

👍 4 ❤️ 2

glasgow here — my plateau's lasted loger than some friendships, but I'm still lacing up.

👍 9 ❤️ 2

UK (Bristol) here. I track via a monthly waist tape and a photo in the same doorway light, because my smart scale’s body-fat estimate swings wildly with hydration. That combo has been more honest than any single number. Sharp follow-up: has anyone found a decent, non-hype source comparing waist-to-height vs BMI for tracking changes? I keep seeing it asserted but not sourced. Also curious whether people in Asia/Europe set different goal ranges based on local guidelines — not asking for medical advice, just what you’ve read.

👍 4

UK here — Seoul’s weekly-tracking take convinced me; daly just made me grumpy.

👍 9 ❤️ 1

Glasgow too — that plateau line made me laugh. Still here, still walking.

👍 1

Singapore here — plateau solidarity from afar; I track stock and shipping like it’s a sport.

I’m in Fukuoka, Japan. I log daily weight, waist, sleep, and protein in a spreadsheet, but my contrarian take is that daily weigh-ins are fine if you only trust a 10-day rolling median. My own trendline shows a 3–4 day lag between a salty dinner and any scale bump, then a drop that isn’t “fat loss” either. Monthly tape measurements completely miss that noise. Anyone else tracking lag instead of weekly averages?

👍 2

Honestly, london here — running a cafe means the pastries are constantly trying to unionize against me

Manchester here, plateau twins. The pastries unionising got me 😂

Bristol here — pastry unionising is going straight in the classics thread next to the spreadsheet saga.

👍 5

Singapore hee — humidity is my unofficial second scale, some mornings the same number reads half a kilo heavier and I just log it and move on. Plateau twin-ing with the Manchester lot; the pastries unionising line got a proper laugh out of me. Curious though, for the spreadsheet folks: do you track anything beyond weight, waist, sleep and protein? I added a one-line mood note months ago expecting nothing and it's the column I actually read back.

👍 9 ❤️ 3

Manchester, UK checking in — loving the Asia roll call so far. I keep a nerdy little spreadsheet with columns for sleep, steps, and whether I got a decent protein breakfast. The only line that consistently leads my 28-day trend is sleep: bad sleep week, plateau follows about 4–5 days later. Anyone else found their real leading indicator? Curious whether it’s sleep for most people or if I’m just a special snowflake with a pillow problem.

For what it's worth, london here — running a cafe means the pastry tray is my daily boss battle 😅

👍 5

Ireland here — my after-dinner loop is my body check-in. How’s yours feeling this week?

👍 4

Tbh rural Denmark here. I keep a tiny notebook by the kettle; one line a day—sleep, steps, mood, no weights at all. On Fridays I read the week back and write one kind sentence to myself regardless. It stopped me quitting after a bad stretch. Curious: does anyone else track mood or sleep alongside the scale?

👍 7 ❤️ 1

Bristol checking in — grey drizzle, but a wander round the block still counts. Hope everyone’s week is gentle.

👍 1

Rotterdam here. I’ve been around since the old check-in threads—remember the “non-scale wins” phase? My current thing is a Sharpie tally on the fridge for every time I take the station stairs instead of the escalator. No watch, no app, just dots. It’s oddly motivating on grey days and gives me something to look at when the scale is boring. Curious: does anyone have a habit that survives dark, wet months? I’m trying to build a winter-proof routine before the clocks change.

👍 3

Checking in from Manchester. I track waist circumference monthly, resting HR, and a monthly progress photo. Scale’s a lagging indicator; tape measure caught changes first when weight stalled. Curious whether others in humid climates see bigger week-to-week water swings — Seoul/Singapore folks, do you adjust for that or just ignore it?

👍 2

london checking in — grey drizzle, short walk, and glad this thread

👍 4

Heathrow T5 here — Pret salads and airport wifi are my whole personality this week ✈️

👍 4 ❤️ 1

UK checking in — tiny win was walking while my tea brewed. Anyone else sneak in micro-loops?

👍 8 ❤️ 4

tokyo here — soda-swap experiment going great until late-night gaming brain orders a cola lol

👍 13 ❤️ 2

Bristol, UK, checking in. I keep a paper diary with two things: monthly waist-to-height and a note on whether the stairs at work felt brutal or fine. Less scale-focused, more “can I carry the shopping without stopping.” Curious if anyone has a decent source comparing waist-to-height vs BMI for tracking progress? I see it asserted constantly but rarely sourced. Also, for the Europe/UK folks: does your clinic/pharmacy actually discuss lifestyle stuff, or is it mostly just the prescription handover? Mine is polite but very brief. Not asking for medical advice, just wondering if that’s typical.

👍 5 ❤️ 2

uk here, though my body clock is stuck on late-night server time lol. current soda-swap experiment: big glass of cold sparkling water + a squeeze of lime, and I stopped keeping cans in the fridge so they’re a hassle to grab mid-game. the lime one actually sticks; diet lemonade just makes me crave the real thing. it’s less about willpower and more about breaking the hand-to-mouth loop durig loading screens. anyone else got a late-night swap that survives a 2am queue, or is everything just sad herbal tea at that point?

👍 8 ❤️ 1

Posting from a rainy Manchester airport hotel — UK-ish for now. My travel trick: roasted edamame in the carry-on and a shaker bottle, thn I raid the breakfast buffet for Greek yogurt and boiled eggs before I even unpack. Jet lag has my hunger cues doing interpretive dance, so I’m mostly tracking protein and terminal laps rather than anything fancy. Week was rough — delays nuked my gym plans, so I’m counting brisk concourse walks as movement. What’s everyone’s go-to airport or hotel meal that doesn’t feel like sad desk croissant?

👍 6 ❤️ 1

London here — my spreadsheet says I post mot on Tuesdays, which is oddly specific.

👍 7 ❤️ 1

First week here too, waving from Dublin — still figuring out which thread is which!

👍 2 ❤️ 1

Zurich airport, layover two of three today. My travel food plan is basically: land, find a grocery store before the hotel, stock the mini-fridge with the same boring rotation — Greek yogurt, berries, pre-cooked chicken, a bag of baby carrots. Not glamorous, but it stops me from negotiating with a hotel minibar at midnight. Sharp follow-up for the road warriors: do you scout the nearest supermarket before you even book the hotel? I have a heroic number of tabs open and no shame. Hotel kettles are useless for anything except tea and regret.

👍 1

northern England here, the evening wlk is the only thing keeping me sane lately

👍 4

hi everyone — brand new here, week one, posting from a damp corner of Wales. This thread is lovely. I’ve been doing a short after-tea walk to the corner shop and back, mostly to get out of my own head, and it’s become the one part of the day I actually look forward to. Small question: for those in different time zones, do you find these check-ins feel like a slow relay? I’m in the UK, so by the time I read them they’re hours old, but it’s oddly comforting. Also, is it okay to just lurk and like posts while I find my feet? Still learning the etiquette. Thanks for having me.

👍 8 ❤️ 3

London hre — cafe owner, so the pastry tray is my daily boss fight. Glad this thread’s back.

👍 5 ❤️ 4

UK here. Night shift brain, so I do laps of the park at 4am. Rough weeks count too.

👍 4

Honestly, bristol, UK. My tracking is waist tape + a monthly photo in the same outfit/light. It’s slower, but it’s the only thing that hasn’t been thrown off by travel or salty dinners. Genuine question for the non-scale crowd: what interval actually shows a trend for you—two weeks, monthly, or longer? I see a lot of confident “you must measure X often” claims online and no real data behind them.

👍 8 ❤️ 4

taipei here. Reached goal a while back and mostly maintain by anchoring to the seasons rather than the scale: summer means early walks before the heat, winter means soup batches and a standing Friday market trip. My only tracking is a paper wall calendar — a dot for movement, a dot for veggies, nothing else. If I get three blank days in a row, that’s my cue to reset, not panic. The Seoul weekly-tracking mention made me curious: does anyone else find their routine changes completely with daylight hours? Love that this thread is just check-ins, rough weeks included.

👍 2

Manchester here — my 6am dog walk is basically my coffee-run confessional.

👍 3

South coast UK — grey sky, flask of tea, same slow loop. Nice to see this thread again.

👍 4 ❤️ 1

Checking in from a tiny UK town — my pharmacy gals ask about my walks now, ha.

👍 6 ❤️ 1

Small-town UK here — my pharmacy ladies know my name and my dog’s name too 😄

👍 5

Hi from raiy Manchester! Week one, nervous, but this thread feels like a warm corner.

👍 1

London here — long plateau, but I still do my grmpy little evening loop.

👍 3

Midlands UK — my snack drawer has a lock and the kids still find a way.

👍 3 ❤️ 1

Rural Midwest US — our one pharmacy counter is basically the town confessional. Hi y'all!

👍 1

Singapore here. My main tracking cue lately is whether I feel genuinely hungry before a meal or just mouth-hungry — I jot a simple Q/L/?? in my notes app. Also, because of the heat, I’ve moved my walk to covered walkways after sunset; humidity makes my body feel puffy even when habits are steady. Gentle question: for those in hot/humid places, does your appetite or tracking change with the seasons? I’m trying to learn my own pattern rather than fight it.

👍 6 ❤️ 1

UK here. This thread is the only dashboard I don’t ignore.

👍 3

Singapore checking in. I reached goal last year and now maintain mostly by routine: a 15-minute swim before work, then coffee and a quick scan here while Europe sleeps. Curious whether the Asia crew finds the forum quiet in their evenings, since most threads seem to wake up when London does.

👍 3

Manchester here — in the trials, consistency beats intensity, but my waist tape still takes weekends off.

👍 2 ❤️ 1

Hi — first post, sorry if this is a wobbly one. I’m in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Week one for me, so I’m mostly lurking and taking notes. Something new I’ve been trying: a tiny “energy vs. appetite” note in my phone at lunch (just one word each) because daily numbers make me anxious. Too soon to mean much, but it’s helping me spot that late afternoons are my wobbly window. Is anyone else tracking energy/appetite instead of weight? Also, any mainland Europe folks here? Feels very UK so far, which is lovely — just curious.

👍 1

Posting from Dublin Airport, en route to Amsterdam — home base is Rotterdam, but my suitcase has more stamps than my passport. My only road-tracking hack that sticks: I snap a pic of every hotel breakfast before touching it, then glance back at the week. It’s not about numbers; it just shows when I’ve gone full pastry goblin. Also, airport walks with a podcast have become my default movement. Question for the frequent flyers: what’s your safest “travel uniform” meal that doesn’t need a kitchen? I’m maxed out on rotisserie chicken and pre-cut mango.

👍 6 ❤️ 1

Wiltshire here — my new after-dinner walks and one-pan experiments are keeping me sane-ish. 😄

👍 5 ❤️ 2

Tbh amsterdam here. My twist: I don’t track weight at all — I track whether I can climb the stairs to my flat without needing a breather at the top. Petty, but it’s honest. For the Asia folks: what’s your best convenience-store or supermarket protein lunch? I’m in Seoul and Tokyo next month and would rather not default to crisps and a sad banana. Also, anyone in the UK found local walking groups that aren’t secretly 10k-step cults? I’m skeptical of the magic number, but I do need the company.

👍 5

Singapore here — my trendline and scale argue daily, spreadsheet always wins.

👍 4 ❤️ 1

rural Japan here — the scale is currently boring me into a rage, so I’ve switched to dumb little non-scale tests. Concrete one: I now walk the 22 minutes to the station instead of taking the bus, and I do Sunday jar salads so lunch isn’t a vending-machine roulette. My rings fit again and my winter coat zips without the suck-in. That’s the only win I’m counting this week. Anyone else have a weird “test” item — a specific stair set, a coat, a ring — that tells you more than the number?

👍 1

Netherlands here — rough weeks count too, and the doorway-light photo idea is quietly brilliant.

👍 2

South coast UK — my snack drawer is basically a toddler with a lock on it.

👍 1

posting from a dorm in Singapore. My cheap-protein hack is a rice cooker + frozen edamame + eggs, plus the canteen’s “mystery chicken” if I’m feeling brave. Tracking-wise I keep a whiteboard tally of days I hit protein, not weight — my scale died in October and I’ve decided that’s a personality trait now. Question: does anyone else’s dorm fridge actively sabotage them, or is it just mine that freezes the lettuce and hides the yogurt?

👍 3 ❤️ 2

Tbh cafe owner in Cardiff — the pastry tray is my daily temptation, send help 😅

👍 5 ❤️ 2

Singapore here — I run a small cafe, so my danger zone isn’t meals, it’s the 4pm pastry case. New thing I’m trying: I portion a few “taster” bites into tiny cups before service and keep them in the back, so I’m not mindlessly eating the display stock. Honestly helped more than any big overhaul. The weird bit is my appetite seems to follow my shift, not the clock — on close shifts I’m not hungry till 10pm. Anyone else find their hunger schedule is totally out of sync with “normal” meal times? Curious how you handle that without turning into a gremlin at midnight.

👍 2

Posting from a Heathrow pod hotel tonight — usually I’m bouncing between AMS, SIN and whatever airport has the saddest 6am coffee. My travel tracking is less scale, more “did I clock enough steps before boarding” and “did I find a breakfast that isn’t just a pastry and regret.” Changi wins for real food; Frankfurt makes me consider fasting for non-medical, purely emotional reasons. Sharp follow-up: does anyone ele keep a collapsible water bottle and a bag of nuts in the laptop bag so airport hunger doesn’t make the decisions? Rough travel weeks absolutely count — I once called an airline biscuit lunch and logged it as “character building.”

👍 3 ❤️ 1

Singapore here (ex-London). I’m with the trend-over-noise camp: I lift 4x/week, protein at every meal, sleep protected. Concrete tracking: top-set loads in a log and how my jeans fit. If squats/rows inch up and waist doesn’t, that’s recomp even when the scae is boring. Sharp follow-up for the Bristol tape person: do you measure fasted, same time, before coffee? Mine shifts ~2 cm from a salty dinner alone. Any other Asia folks find humidity wrecks sleep and therefore recovery?

👍 1

Posting from Copenhagen — my spreadsheet even has a timezone column, and it's the only tidy thing left.

👍 1

Dublin here — my trend line forgives the airport pastry, my jet lag doesn't 😅

👍 4

hello from Dublin — brand new, week one, quietly nervous but glad to find you all

👍 1

Midlands UK here — this thread has the same good eergy as the old weekly check-in, love it.
