My flip-off caps keep shedding a jagged little ring

Last four vials from two different lots have done the same thing: the plastic top pops, but the aluminum skirt tears instead of peeling as one piece. I keep getting a tiny crescent of metal left crimped near the rubber stopper.

It doesn't seem to affect the seal, and I'm not trying to turn it into a safety scare, but it makes me wonder about crimp consistency. I've tried pressing straight down, warming the vial in my hand first, and going slower; maybe 2 of the 4 opened cleanly.

In the trials I doubt anyone logged packaging friction, so I'm asking here. Is this just how some crimps are, or am I creating the problem with my opening grip?
